Walker's is pleased to present its fifth major sale of Inuit art, November 3rd, 2013 in Toronto. We are proud to have assembled a veritable feast of Inuit works, both sculptures and graphics, as well as an interesting selection of First Nations arts.
We are especially honoured to have been chosen to present an important group of works from the estate of Lorne Balshine in Vancouver. To say that Lorne was a passionate collector of Inuit art is putting it mildly. It would be fair to say that he devoted much of his life to the pursuit of collecting Inuit art, making friends among Inuit artists, collectors and dealers, and tirelessly promoting the art form not only in his native Vancouver but around the world. We are profoundly grateful to Lorne's friend Phil, executor of Lorne's estate and to Lorne's siblings, especially his sister Sheila, for their hard work, their support, and their devotion to Lorne's memory and legacy. We would also like to sincerely thank Lorne's longtime friend Norman Zepp for his heartfelt and thoughtful essay.
Friends of Lorne's will no doubt recognize many of the works in this catalogue. On the other hand, there will be some surprises too, and a chance to truly appreciate some of the masterpieces that might have been overlooked during a visit to Lorne's amazing (but crowded!) apartment.
We would once again like to express our sincere appreciation to our growing list of consignors and collectors from around the world. Thank you all for your support.
